Social Security notes encourage filing for retirement benefits

Several thousand men and women nationwide who have reached retirement age are unaware they may apply for monthly social security payments. Local district manager John R. Galdman notes many in the Sioux City area have not claimed back benefits or begun receiving benefits due to misunderstandings of the law changes in 1960 and 1961. Even working individuals may file to secure future eligibility and avoid loss if incapacitated. Benefits are not limited to those in financial need, and income from pensions does not affect social security. For more information contact the Social Security Administration in Sioux City or a field representative.
