Westfield News Notes and Local Happenings

Peggy Neal flew to Fargo North Dakota for her sister’s wedding last Friday and returned Monday evening by bus. Sharon Faust visited her grandmother Mrs Helen Faust and other Westfield relatives Thursday evening. Sgt and Mrs Larry Faust welcomed a son Clint Shannon on February 10 at Sioux City. Gregg Chemical Co and Westfield Feed and Grain held a noon luncheon on herbicides and pesticides at the Knotty Keg on February 15. Doug Vrana won an all expense paid trip to Omaha to see a pro basketball game for generating three new Sioux City Journal subscribers. Esther Moffatt visited daughter Lucille Hartness in Le Marg last week. Norrel Quam and Ronald Trude hosted visitors last Saturday. News items welcome at 568 2421. A closing thought extols the value of a smile and its wide benefits.

Obituary Henry F. Frerichs 88 Akron farmer dies

Henry F. Frerichs, 88, Akron farmer, died February 13 at a Sioux City hospital from injuries suffered in a hayloft fall on February 7. Funeral services were held February 16 at the First Church of Christ in Akron. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Akron. Survivors include a son Richard of Hawarden, a stepdaughter, a sister, eight grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.

60th Anniversary Celebrated by Mr and Mrs Edwin Anderson

Neighborhood Youth Corps program ends due to lack of funds

Mid-Sioux Opportunity reports the Department of Labor did not receive funds for the Summer Neighborhood Youth Corps. Last year 251 teens held ten week summer jobs in five counties, earning 84,357 dollars. The program’s discontinuance means idle youth and economic loss to communities.
