February 21 and 22 mark district declamations at Orange City with FFA subdistrict chosen earlier this month. February 25 features an evening band rehearsal and February 27 a grade and junior high instrumental solo recital. R R SMALL TALK notes a Beatles opinion sheet shortage and Norka staff wrap up this year’s evening workshop with most pages finished.
Our honored Senior this week is Janes Mackey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Mackey. Jim, 17, attends West Side Church of Christ in Akron and is the student manager of the football team for three years. He plans military service after graduation and aims to stay single as long as possible.
Kathy Kenny has been chosen as a candidate for state secretary of the Future Homemakers of America. She, along with Jeanne Plueger and Susie Sypherd, with Mrs. Hedges, will represent the Akron FHA chapter at the State Convention in Des Moines on March 5 6 and 7. Kathy will deliver a speech and answer a duties question as delegates vote to choose state officers. She is the Akron chapter’s first delegate for a state office.
The February 10 meeting in the gym opened with the President calling the session to order. Delegates were chosen and a plan for FFA Week promoted. a parliamentary procedure demo was given by several members. After refreshments, a basketball game followed. Also, AHS students voiced varied opinions on the Beatles, with many commenting on hair and style.

Interest focused on Rural Women’s Day on February 25 and a Farm Bureau trip this fall. Dick Jelken gave Music and Recreation report. Adam Tindall Jr. and Robert Less presented an Extension Lesson on Floor Coverings and Care.
The Plymouth County Chapter of the American Cancer Society met on Monday February 10 at Weidler Hall Westmar College Le Mars with Mrs R C Hodgson presiding. Education Chairman Mrs Howard Held reported on county wide educational efforts and summarized the October State Convention in Des Moines. Crusade Chairman Mr Ed Buss outlined plans for the April Cancer Crusade Drive and reported on a Sioux City meeting. Dr Robert Herrig chaired the remaining session.
The Epidemological Survey in Plymouth County reported on survey progress. Mrs. G. O. Thompson chaired the Loan Closet and Herbert Blakeway presented the treasurer's report in Fristad’s absence. Dr. G. O. Thompson stressed early cancer detection and care to cut deaths. Mrs. Jack Tatman of Superior Iowa was named Field Representative.
