Oyster stew supper marked Union County Farm Bureau meeting

The Union County Executive Board of the Farm Bureau held its annual oyster stew supper on January 26 at the R E A courtesy room. About 30 attended with Jim Sweep, state director of District H, as a guest. Lincoln Tweet reported on the national convention and Slide show. A business meeting followed with bills paid and correspondence read.

Bowling league high scores and leaders update

Barwicks rolled the top team series with 2462 at El Do Laundromat while Awk ward Club posted 2385. Barwicks achieved the high team game 860, with Awk ward Club at 853. Individual bests include Lawrence Maynard 248 in the high game and 661 in the high series, while Larry Lorensen had 533. Audrey Ericson led the high women’s game with 200, Lois Klemme 199, and Lois Klemme also piloted the top three-game series at 538 followed by Marlys Anderson 506.

Trautt dies in Arizona after short illness

Frank Trautt, a former Akron Iowa barber and businessman, died in Tucson Arizona on Tuesday January 27 after a brief illness from a heart attack. Born August 10 1887 in ONeill Nebraska he moved to Iowa with his parents and farmed near Akron. He married Mary Gleason January 26 1910. Survived by sons Fay Raymond and Leo all of Tucson and daughters Evelyn Houlton of Sioux City Ella Houlton of Sioux City, 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, two brothers James of Akron and Tom of Minneapolis, two sisters Anna Mohrmann and Frances Strohbehm. Requiem mass at St Patrick’s Akron with burial at Catholic Cemetery. Tucson mass January 29 at St Francis Mission. Casket bearers were grandsons Larry John Don Jerry Houston Terry Trautt and Terry Martin. Funeral arrangements by Ron Schroeder Funeral Home.
