Remsen vandals admit defacing town water tower

Two young Remsen men Scott Feeck and Steve Bunkers have confessed to vandalizing the town water tower with black paint. They told police chief Harold Henson and officer Bill Feeck last week and have been charged with defacing public property in magistrate’s court.

Christmas visits and carols at West nursing home

Residents and visitors share Christmas cheer with nursing home events. Ideline Simon Agnes Claassen served cake and ice cream while Wayne Hall Bertha Bouvin and John Axelson from West nursing home socialized. FFA girls handed out apples candles and fruit. 4-H sang carols and handed out candy canes. Various families and pastors visited, with holiday greetings and New Year wishes noted. Weather noted as very cold and some colds among members.

Mrs. Harry Nelson 76 of Akron Iowa died December 20 at an Akron nursing home. Funeral held December 22 at Wesley United Methodist Church Akron with Rev. Ralph Burdette officiating. Burial in Riverside Cemetery Akron under Schroeder Funeral Home guidance. Survived by husband, four sons, a foster son, and five grandchildren. Mrs Nelson born November 30 1897 in Union County. Farm Home Administration loans expand rural housing aid

A new eligibility change widens Farm Home Administration rural housing assistance. The maximum adjusted income rises to 20 400 with 5 percent of gross income and 300 per minor child deducted. Interest can be 8 percent for up to 33 years, with credits possible for incomes under 7 000. Loans cover construction, purchase or repair in towns under 10 000 or rural areas served by Le Mars and Orange City offices.

Boy Scouts Recognized In National Bicentennial Program

The Boy Scouts of America have been officially recognized as part of the national Bicentennial program for a four year effort involving about 6.5 million youths and adults.
