Akron Couple to Observe 70th Wedding Anniversary
Mr and Mrs W P Tucker of Akron celebrate 70 years of marriage dating from December 24 1906 in Madison South Carolina. They moved to Akron in 1945 and remained active in their community with Pearl serving on the school and election boards and Cora aiding the Baptist Women’s Missionary Society. Now in their late eighties and early nineties they have seven children 17 grandchildren 26 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. A family dinner in Sioux City is planned for December 26.

Border Belles 4-H Club December Meeting Report
The Border Belles 4-H club met December 6 at Jeannette Finzen's home. Jeannette Finzen presided at 7 50 p.m. with 13 members and two visitors. Members sang a Christmas song, the treasurer reported 98.48 on hand, and next meeting was set for January 3 1977 at Henrichs. The group held a Christmas party with games, music, gift exchange, and a lunch hosted by the hostess.

Hultgren loans The Last Letter Home to Akron Library
Dennis Hultgren of Akron loans to the Akron public library the book The Last Letter Home by Moberg, a sequel to The Emigrants and Unto A Good Land. The English edition was the subject of a court action and is now scarce. Hultgren purchased his copy in 1973 in Stockholm with a promise to return it quietly. The library board thanks him, noting it will interest readers of early Swedish emigration pioneer tales.

Airman Richard M. Rosenbaum Jr. son of Mr and Mrs Richard M Rosenbaum Sr of Elk Point South Dakota has graduated with honors at Sheppard AFB Texas from the U S air force technical training course for medical service specialists. He will be assigned to Grand Forks AFB North Dakota with a unit of the strategic air command. The course allows academic credits through the Community college of the air force. Kerry Jo Vander Helm and David Wesley Heeren exchanged vows in a candlelight ceremony on November 20 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. Rev. David J. Roy officiated the double ring event as Denise Kolker sang and Mrs Carol Harris played organ. The couple’s parents are Allen Vander Helm and Kervyn Heeren of Akron. The bride wore a white jersey gown with lace details and a double illusion veil, carried an orchid bouquet, and was escorted by her father. Matron of honor Jeane Moon and bridesmaids Kris Dirks and Mary Dirks wore burnt orange gowns. Best man Greg Heeren and groomsmen Mike Caskey and Mark Heeren attended. A reception followed at the church, with the couple planning to reside on a farm west of Akron after a wedding trip to the Black Hills.

Akron couple Mr. and Mrs. Otto H. Osterbuhr observed their 40th wedding anniversary with a Thursday dinner for immediate family at the Red Raven in South Sioux City. They married on December 2, 1936, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Akron and have since lived there. Their family includes three children Marlin of Akron, Mary Hamilton of Merrill, and Marlene Welch, deceased, and eight grandchildren.
