State Safety Commission chief Carl Pesch warned the long Christmas weekend could claim 12 lives in Towans last year 15 people were killed during the holiday in the state. A quiet service honored Florence Tena Christenson 84 who died Sunday after a brief illness. Born July 18, 1877 in Moorhead Iowa, she lived in Akron for decades as a devoted church member and domestic worker. Survivors include daughter Genevieve Fickbohm and twin sister Maggie Spittle. Funeral was held Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Strom officiating. Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery. Relatives arrived from Minnesota and Blair Nebraska for the services.
