New Years Eve Dance at Akron Golf Club

Change in school calendar announced for 1978

A calendar change to compensate for snow days moves school to open January 3, 1978 and on Washington’s Birthday February 20. If more days are needed they will likely be made up in late May or on January 2.

Goal reached for school playground fund at bazaar

The Holiday bazaar and bake sale last Saturday raised three thousand dollars for playground equipment. Special thanks to Rod's Ford for use of his building, the Commercial Club, Daryl Taylor for the sleigh, the Akron Register-Tribune and Luceen Anderson for publicity, Santa and helper, and to Bernice Miller who won the watch. The club will order the new equipment soon.

Pat Bernard elected to HSA council in Iowa

Mrs Pat Bernard of Akron was elected to the Northwest Iowa subarea council of the Iowa Health Systems Agency for a remaining two years of a three year term. Scattered 4-H Club Meets at Swoyer Home

The Scattered 4-H club met December 5 at John Swoyer’s home. Members pledged the flag, collected canned vegetables for Akron nursing home, played games, and exchanged Christmas gifts. Lunch was provided by Mrs. Swoyer. Next meeting set for January 2 at Allen Beeck’s home.

Briar Cliff Student Diane Oetken Named to Who's Who

Diane R. Oetken, Briar Cliff College senior, selected for the 1977 78 Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. She interns in medical technology at Marion Health Center Sioux City and was a chemistry lab assistant on the IPS Missouri River project. She played varsity softball and basketball, participated in women's intramurals and was a Special Olympics volunteer. Christmas festival shines at Iowa State University

The 21st annual Christmas festival of music at Iowa State University featured 300 students in three singing groups the ISU Symphony Orchestra and the ISU brass choir with 400 student musicians total. Performers included Oratorio chorus members Marlin Harris Akron and Jan Barker Ireton. Gift reminder offered for Akron Register-Tribune subscriptions.

Local men to serve on Farm Bureau young member committee

Plymouth county Farm Bureau directors approve a 1978 young member committee for ages 19 to 30 to foster leadership and participation in agriculture. Gregg Roepke of Kingsley elected chairman. other members named from Akron and Westfield areas for one year. The group will attend a Dec 16 organization meeting at Spencer and gather child data for immunization and kindergarten round-up procedures.

Community Christmas Meals Bring Local Groups Together
