The family of Lora Carlson invites relatives and friends to an open house honoring her 91st birthday. It will run 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday Dec 11 at the First Church of Christ fellowship hall in Akron with a short program at 3. All are welcome to visit Mrs. Carlson. The Akron hospital auxiliary met Nov 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the hospital meeting room. Jerald Dykstra discussed hospital closings and urged letters to congressmen. He also noted purchasing a stereo for the nursing home and a new hospital addition due in March. A new auxiliary officers slate was elected: Dowling president Bernard vice president Coyle treasurer Garvin secretary Stone publicity chair Wright historian Vreugdenhil in charge of trays favors and Willer Port canning co-chairs. The next auxiliary meeting is Jan 30, 1978.

Marta Trotzig Named To Iowa Phi Beta Kappa

Marta Jane Trotzig of Akron daughter of Dr and Mrs J P Trotzig has been named to the University of Iowa chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. Carl Westling professor of biochemistry and chapter president presided at the initiation of 96 members on Sunday Dec 4. To qualify, liberal arts students must be near degree completion with 90 to 108 hours and averages of 3.7 or higher. those with 109 hours need at least 3.5.

Akron students to receive SDSU degrees

About 230 South Dakota State University students are candidates for graduation at a December 18 commencement in Frost Arena Brookings. Akron residents Wendi Johnson and Swenn Weinblom are among those listed.
