Westfield Man Completes Nine Weeks Infantry Training
Army Private John E. Damrau, son of Mr and Mrs Arnold J Damrau Route 2 Westfield Iowa, finished nine weeks of advanced individual training at Fort Polk Louisiana. He earned general training as a light weapons infantryman and mortar crewman, plus specialized weapons instruction. He learned high explosives placement and mine detection and disarming, with emphasis on teamwork in rifle squads mortar squads and direct fire sections. He qualified to perform other jobs if needed.

Friendship and Service Club Hosts Handwriting talk
The Friendship and Service club met at Mary Ellen Caskey’s home on Thursday November 14 with Kaye Erks as co host. Twenty members attended. Principal Allen Brown of Beresford South Dakota spoke on handwriting analysis and led members in writing samples to illustrate analysis. Final plans were made for the Millie Gubrud Style Show the next evening and the remembrance fund was collected. The Akron Senior Citizens club met December 2 with 58 members. Edith Gant presided while Gulsvng brought singers from the school. lunch followed after cards and games.

P E O Chapter J C met at Birdie Harris home on December 3 1974. The chaplain read the Christmas Story. Sixteen members answered roll call and monthly reports were given. Two special ballots passed bylaw amendment and a farewell courtesy rule addition. A gift of twenty five dollars was pledged from savings to a hunger appeal. Hyla Olson presented the program Bells at Christmas. Carols and a responsive litany followed.

The Plymouth county barracks 1507 Veterans of World War I and Auxiliary will meet Saturday December 14 at the Le Mars Eagles club. A noon pot-luck dinner is planned with guests to bring their own table service. Business meetings start at 1 30 p.m. There will be a gift exchange followed by refreshments and a social hour to conclude.

Two paintings by Iowa artists appear in Northwestern Bell's 1975 Appointment Calendar chosen from over 3,200 submissions by 753 artists from five states including Iowa Minnesota Nebraska North Dakota and South Dakota. A retrospective from the Akron Register-Tribune notes 70 years ago 1904 auction listings for Frank Coyle G C Putman and Sons and A H Pills. Cattle sold from 40 to 60 dollars a head at A L Mills sale. Walter Prestage set a husking record after 40 days averaging 100 bushels daily then 146 bushels in nine hours. Also covered 60 years ago 1914 births and damages to Keech's warehouse followed by snow sleet and sleighing. 1934 1944 1954 1964 noted events include community Christmas aims, rink and hockey plans, weddings births and deaths, golden anniversaries and local school musical.

Plymouth Woodbury dairy association held its annual meeting on November 26. Don Hoffman announced Le Mars was elected as a new director. carryover directors include Jim Eyres of Le Mars Irvin Schroeder Remsen Loren Nilles Remsen and Bruce Hemmingsen Akron. Production awards went to Lorne and Florence Nilles for 46 cows and 582 pounds butterfat per cow Bruce Hemmingsen for 87 cows 563 pounds butterfat per cow and Jim Eyres for 83 cows 506 pounds butterfat per cow. Officers elected for 1975 were Irvin Schroeder President Loren Nilles Vice President and Jim Eyres Secretary Treasurer.
