Westfield Tuesday Club Meeting Recaps Nov. 28

Westfield Tuesday Club gathered in the church Social rooms with hostess Opal Hummel. Thirteen members attended along with guests Mrs John Giebens and Mrs Lackman. Clare Mackey reported on a Mail Carriers convention dinner. Education Week and a gift exchange were planned for the next meeting. Plymouth County President Mrs Siebens spoke on the district meeting and several club yearbooks were reviewed. Nella Lilly led a round table on The Play Group.

Progress report notes Iowa school districts added 559 new classrooms in 1960-61 to serve 16 770 pupils, with 11 764 more pupils in 1961-62. Since 1961 districts spent over 200 million dollars for 6 768 additions, while 3 787 rural rooms closed, netting 2 030 classrooms. High school costs averaged 40 431, elementary 29 157. ninth grade enrollment rising to 47 397. The article also covers Public Law 87-368 expanding Fugitive Felon Act enforcement, enabling FBI and local police to pursue cross state line fugitives, with penalties up to 5 000 dollars or six years, stressing local authority coordination.

Way Back Yonder Items of Interest From Akron Files

A retrospective note recalls Rev. Fred A. Meske 79 of Marshfield Wis dying November 29 1951 after forty six years as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Akron and St Matthew Chatsworth. Survivors include his wife two daughters one son two foster children, two brothers, nine grandchildren and a great grandchild. Funeral rites were at St Matthew and Trinity Lutheran Akron with interment at Akron Riverside cemetery.

Highway letting date rescheduled by Iowa State HC Commission
