Miss Rose Hilton and Hutch Tleeson returned Monday from the World's Century of Progress in Chicago. Mrs. Joseph Gardner is visiting her daughter Mrs. Wilson Heasley in Vermillion. Mildred and Everette Heasley returned to their home near Vermillion after visiting relatives. Harvey Welch and family and others journeyed by motor to Bruce South Dakota then Hecla and Ray Lamport homes for several days. Russell Huff visited Walter Bennett in Richland. Mrs. E. I. Conner and children of Alcester were visitors at Frank Kerr’s. Dr. Conner’s parents from Glidden Iowa returned home after spending days here. Olive Ringsrud returned from the World’s Century of Progress.
Mrs. Lewis Sutter and her children spent Monday afternoon calling on Mrs. Ed Johnson. The report notes a very enjoyable time during the visit and mentions digent patients from the county being treated by someone referenced as Ed Johnson.
The state hospital quota for indigent patients to be admitted from each county was set at 86 for Plymouth County, nearly triple the recent county totals. Faced with reduced appropriations, hospital authorities cut about 20 percent of capacity and adopted population based apportionment to distribute services fairly until July 1, 1934. States that patients from state institutions are not charged to their counties.
A man in Yankton rushed to aid after a highway collision. He climbed a telephone pole, tapped into lines, called for help, and then returned to assist the injured until doctors arrived, helping save the driver’s life.
