Iowa NDEA pilot math labs in Carlisle and Marion schools
The Iowa State Plan for the National Defense Education Act funds experiments in mathematics science and modern languages at Carlisle Consolidated with about 200 high school students and Marion Independent with about 500. Each district will operate a dedicated mathematics laboratory pilot and receive equipment funding and minor remodeling. The project includes desks enrichment books models chalkboards teaching machines projectors cameras and tape recorders with evaluation of individual based teaching aids and materials from leading math programs. A 200 reference library will support the labs. Meanwhile State Safety Commissioner Carl Pesch warns Labor Day weekend traffic tolls and urges early trip planning and safe driving to prevent repeat tragedies as Iowa roads see heavy holiday travel.
