Clay County Fair readies 52nd show with Canada booth

Special Correspondent reports on Clay County Fair preparations in Spencer for September 6 to 13. Exhibits include Canadian machinery from Manitoba with 8,000 square feet of space, a liquid manure spreader, an air conditioned hog farrowing house, a $22,000 combine, and rock gathering device.

Funeral Rites Held for Mrs Edward Larson at Brule Creek

Funeral services for Mrs Helene Marie Larson aged 96 were conducted Saturday at Brule Creek Lutheran Church with Rev J Rye presiding. Burial followed in the church cemetery under Schroeder Funeral Home direction. Survivors include four sons, two daughters, six grandchildren and one sister. A note to New Eyes For The Needy in New Jersey highlighted how donated glasses and jewelry fund aid to provide prescription glasses and even artificial eyes across hospitals and communities.

Airman First Class William A. Hamilton son of Mr and Mrs Wes G Hamilton of Merrill Iowa serves with the 12th Tactical Fighter Wing at Cam Ranh Bay Vietnam and unit earns the U S Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for the third year. He is a coating specialist and in the wing cited for 23 000 combat sorties during June 1967 to May 1968. Private Thomas Edward Nason son of Mr and Mrs Alfred Nason of Westfield Iowa assigned to Company D 809th Engineer Battalion US Army Thailand. Commanded by Brigadier General David E Ott USARSUPTHAI it supports U S Air Force in Thailand building roads improving land communications port at Sattahip and storage areas nationwide.

Graduation at Western Iowa Tech Completes First All-School Event

Western Iowa Tech will graduate 116 students in its first all-school commencement. Outdoor ceremonies are set for August 22 at 7 30 P M at the Grandview Park Bandshell Sioux City with rain backup in Central High School auditorium. The class includes 15 areas of specialization and features two new programs Band Instrument Repair and Piano Tuning and Repair plus 42 Practical Nursing and Dental Assistant graduates. Commencement speaker is Dr H H Kalas president of Colleges of Mid-America Incorporated and will deliver Two Jobs Without Moonlight.
