New Course Record In Hawarden Two Ball Foursome
Mrs Clarence Gamble of Hawarden and Akron high school coach Don Webb set a sparkling 37 in last Thursday's weekly two-ball foursome at Hawarden Golf Course. The pair were one under par through six holes before an out of bounds shot on the seventh spoiled a near perfect round. Gamble had never scored better than 41 solo, Webb never under 40.

Brotherhood Fair Draws Large Crowd at Craig
A crowd estimated at over 1,000 attended the Brotherhood Fair in Craig hosted by the Brotherhood of St. John American Lutheran church to support 4-H youths and showcase animal demonstrations ahead of the Plymouth county fair. Queen Jo Ann Janssen, 18, led the court with attendants from local clubs while Tim Weidauer won the long term achievement trophy and Darrell Gerrietts earned best groomed calf honors. Earlier, Brunsville Pee Wees beat Ireton 3-0 in baseball, and Craig defeated Ireton 9-8 in a late matchup. The day closed with town council minutes from August 5, 1958.

Plan For Proposed Brule Creek Watershed
An extensive display of maps was decided upon to acquaint the people of the Brule Creek Watershed with the proposed plan. The August 6 Alcester meeting created plans for maps showing watershed structure locations to be furnished to newspapers. Large maps will be posted in Union County at Alcester banks, stores, Elk Point banks, and Beresford’s bank. Detailed information is available from steering or education committees or the County SCS and Agent offices. Membership lists of steering and education committees include individuals from Alcester, Beresford, Elk Point, Akron, and Hudson. The plan is not yet approved by Congress and remains subject to local approval with possible changes that do not affect overall benefits or federal costs.
