Clinic to aid crippled children in Storm Lake

The State Services for Crippled Children will hold a diagnostic clinic for children under 21 with chronic or congenital conditions at Saint John's Lutheran Church in Storm Lake on Wednesday September 15. Eligible counties include Buena Vista, Calhoun, Cherokee, Clay, Ida, O'Brien, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Pocahontas, Sac, and Woodbury. Examinations by pediatricians orthopedists psychologists speech and hearing specialists and therapists are free. Referrals should be sent to the SSCC office 14 days before the clinic date. Medical director Dr. Sohn C. MacQueen and university associates oversee the program, which operates nondiscriminatorily under Title VI.

Merrill school board adds two grades to high school

The Merrill school board will add two more grades the 11th and 12th to its high school curriculum at the opening of the coming fall term. Born a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Larson on August 27, 1911. Wm. Degan died at his Chatsworth home after a long illness on August 25, 1911.

Death of Herman Beckman in Iowa accident

Herman B. Beckman 56 of Akron died August 12 at Veterans Hospital Omaha from injuries suffered August 1 in a one car crash near Missouri Valley Iowa. He was born September 25 1916 in Akron and married Charlene Pollock in 1956. He was a World War II veteran wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. He leaves four sons two brothers three sisters and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Akron with Akron American Legion post graveside rites conducted.

Clay County Fair Opens With Horse Events and Rodeo

The 1971 Clay County Fair runs September 11 with sulky harness racing at 2 p.m. on September 14 for a $3,000 purse. September 15–16 feature chuck wagon, thoroughbred, chariot and pony races. Bob Barnes Rodeo of Cherokee performs Wednesday and Thursday evenings. A free horse show starts 1 p.m. September 17. premium money totals $2,630 across horse, pony and draft classes. Bookkeeping for Automobile Dealers Course Opens September 7 1971

Western Iowa Tech Adult Education offers a twelve week course on bookkeeping for automobile dealers and related agencies starting Tuesday September 7 with classes Tuesday and Thursday 7 to 9 pm.
