Vaccinated Children Do Not Transmit Measles Study

CDC investigators invited by the Iowa Health Department studied an August 1971 to February 1972 measles outbreak in southeastern Iowa. Among 541 cases, 95 percent protection from vaccination was found and immunized children did not transmit the disease to unvaccinated siblings. The Iowa plan urges rapid clinics, identification of unvaccinated children, and a maintenance program to ensure future babies are immunized.
