Sympathy to Mr and Mrs Ray Hughes on the death of their son in law Leonard Schiefen. Local residents report health updates and frequent visits among families in Akron Hawarden Ireton and Sioux City. Many gatherings mark birthdays and anniversaries including Mr and Mrs Moehlmanns 56th anniversary with family guests and a luncheon.
A sincere thanks to relatives and friends for masses prayers flowers gifts and cards while I was a patient at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Special thanks to Father Stone Father Kaiser the C D A and St. Joseph Ladies. God love you all.
Mr George Bern at Veterans Hospital Sioux Falls in satisfactory condition. Prenuptial shower for Miss Sue Morehead July 29 hosted by Mrs Doris Brundeen and Mrs Lorna Whiting. Congratulations to Gaylord and wife on Jeffrey Lee born July 20. Visitors to various homes include Henry Schriever Shelly of Sioux Falls 8 D. Ron Trude hosts Sheila Seitz Beth and Kathy of Kankakee Iowa. Ronald Burke house guests Cecil Hoser California Harold Lawrence Sioux City. Kitchen Chatters offer corn silk removal tip and toothpaste to remove crayon marks from walls.
The Home program featured singing by Mr and Mrs Fay Small and family from Mesquite Texas with Fay reading from the Bible. Visitors included Mr and Mrs Claus Frerichs of Le Mara. Hope Circle of Trinity Lutheran hosted 21 members with a light luncheon. Numerous locals and extended family stopped by over the week for visits and casual gatherings, and a Knapp reunion at Cyrus Knapp farm attracted guests from across the United States. Wendy Johnson staged popcorn during the Laurence Welk show, and Alice Bryant attended Adaville church and dined with Eldon Bryant.
Mr and Mrs Leo Gabel of Bath South Dakota were feted by family at Colonial Manor Groton for their 61st wedding anniversary A program by their four children and grandchildren followed the party Leo and Docie Crow married July 17 1912 Akron were both born in the Akron area and have many relatives nearby
The June 2 ceremony at Wesley United Methodist Church joined Michelle Garvin of Akron and Steven Sparks of Sioux City in a double ring candlelight wedding. Rev. Sparks and Rev. Burdette officiated. The bride wore an English Nottingham lace gown with a veil to the waist and carried a white rose bouquet. Attendants included Suzanne Garvin as maid of honor and bridesmaids Jacqueline Johnson and Linda Sparks. A reception followed at the Country Club, and the couple will live in Sioux City for the summer before relocating to Norwalk, Iowa, where Sparks will teach English. The article also notes a July club luncheon and golf-related events with attendee names and prize winners.
Grace Small hosts a busy round of weekend visitors from Sioux City Le Mars Ankeny and beyond while Sunnyside plans a Riverside park picnic on August 5 at 12 30. Neighbors and relatives from Iowa California Texas and Nebraska stop by for calls and shared reminiscences as families host relatives and attend picnics and visits.
Gerhardt Von Hagel 81 Akron died July 24 1973 after a brief illness. Funeral July 26 at Trinity Lutheran church with Rev. Durwood Clauson officiating. Burial in Riverside cemetery. Survivors include sisters Anna Long Marie Hitzemann and brothers John George all of Akron. He was born July 29 1891 in Union County Iowa and moved to Akron in 1898 becoming Akron’s first electric welder in 1934.
Plymouth county 4-H members are reminded that Iowa state fair 4-H livestock entries are due by August 3 per Judy Homan extension leader. 4-Hers planning to exhibit should contact the Le Mars extension office. Mrs Roehr heads district wool contest in Le Mars as new director for Lyon Osceola Plymouth Dickinson Emmet Sioux Buena Vista Pocahontas counties. Entry deadline Oct 20 team contest Nov 3 with prizes including a Europe holiday and college scholarships.
The Plymouth County Fair invites all county cooks to a pie baking contest sponsored by the Farm Bureau women. Entries due August 1 with judging August 8 at 9 30 a m in Becker hall Le Mars. Prizes of 2 50 and 1 50 awarded in fruit cream and chiffon. Cream and chiffon pies require refrigeration and insulated containers.
