Special Correspondent reports severe drought in Plymouth county causing 9,000 cattle shipped out and crops dried. Insect plagues and a July freeze worsen conditions. Mrs. E. J. Lawrence, disabled by diabetes, seeks help from family in Mont. and nearby, while local residents Roy Cassen Hazel Logan and Christine Low visited the farm. Isabel Wilson visits Sioux City. Joe is said to be doing as well as possible.
Albert Boekelman Evelyn Bur night and Mrs. John Havey visited the Tony Boeckelman family near Westfield last Sunday. Mrs. Holt and Mrs. Joe Westover were Hudson visitors on Monday. Mrs. Chris Scheffen and daughter Margaret and Eileen McFarlin visited in Dell Rapids and Flandreau over the weekend. Emily Schumacher Sioux City is spending the week with grandparents. August Osterthun had a birthday Monday and a surprise party followed. The hostesses served lunch and guests played 500. Several town residents attended. Mrs. J W Havey and son are visiting her mother in Charles City Iowa. Fred Vogelzang and family also visited.
Union Creek News reports no church services during August. The Ladies' Aid will meet at Mrs. Martin Johnsons home on Wednesday August 15 with all members expected to attend. Participants include Mrs. John Frisk Phyllis Johnson Mrs. John Hultgren Russell Johnson and Dorothy Hult.
Miss Pearl Erickson of Sioux City spends two weeks vacation with home folks. Sunday guests at the Will Kiewel home included George Carlson and Emory Carlson family with Sally Ann and Verga Verla Erma Buseh Julius and Harry Ball all of Dakota, John Reemis family Russell Arden, Paul Hilton of Akron, and others.

Frank Welel and son Leonard visited relatives at Laverne Minnesota over the weekend. Rein Kiewel of Beresford South Dakota and Velma Barton of Rapid City South Dakota spent Tuesday night at Will Kiewel home. John Wilken and gon Leonard from Chatsworth were callers at Tony Bockoltian home Sunday. Vance Erickson and James and Roy Kiewel visited in Beresford Sunday. Arthur Brundeen is visiting his cousin Stanley Anderson in Dakota for a few days.
County Auditor L A Ludwig announces the courthouse will close at noon on Wednesday and Thursday August 15 and 16 for the LeMars celebration. Local offices will adjust schedules accordingly.
