Hillrichs Host Picnic For Sons Departing On Service

A Friday evening picnic at Harry Hillrichs home honored Gary and Kenney Hillrichs who left Monday for South Korea and Roger Freri¢ls bound for Clovis New Mexico. Many relatives and friends attended and wished the trio good luck on their US Air Force tour of duty.

Gold-bearing well finds shallow quartz near Akron farm

Mises of hard pan and quartz found at 40 feet on George Waterbury farm five miles northwest of Akron. Rock analysis shows potential yield about one half ounce of gold per ton, not enough to cover mining costs. Also notes births, a local hall team loss to Elk Point, a pastor accepting a Wisconsin call, and ad snippets for groceries and corn flakes.

Soil Conservation Contest Judging in Union County

Judges Leonard Peters Ray Solberg and Horton Boyd all from Elk Point assessed eleven farms in Siouxland Better Farming and Greater South Dakota Ass'n Contests. Winners were Roger Sonichsen Jerry Kratochvil Merrill Johnson in Siouxland contest and Jerry Kratochvil Merrill Johnson Lowell Duncan in the Greater South Dakota Ass'n contest. Gordon L. Mennen of LeMars, volunteer county savings bonds chairman, reported June sales of Series KE and H bonds and Freedom Shares totaling 44,242 in Plymouth county. Midyear total reaches 233,201, achieving 32 percent of the 1968 quota.

Mid-Sioux to Hold Meeting August 12

Plymouth County advisory committee of Mid-Sioux Opportunity, Inc will hold its August 12 meeting in Le Mars at the Extension office. Rev Charles Bormann will preside. The session will study benefits from Head Start, Neighbor Hood Youth Corps and the Mul ti-Purpose Center and Outreach project and plan to expand them through community action. Invited guests include officials, welfare reps and service workers.
