The School Committee announces a budget meeting at 7 30 p m on Thursday May 7 at the Westfield library. The president noted strong interest makes it easier to pursue meeting standards.
The State Board of Public Instruction endorses expanding Outdoor Education to supplement classroom teaching. The program pairs science and math in real outdoor contexts with instruction across Iowa districts. An Archery Instructors Workshop at Iowa State University, June 14 16 1964, will train teachers and staff in archery instruction and safety led by Dr Barbara E Forker and Dr Arnold O Haugen.
Westfield Iowa community notices list May 1964 meetings and events. Post Office bans Saturday money orders as of May 4, Ladies Aid Society gathers May 7 at Congregational Church with Grace Spaulding teaching. Goodwill Truck to Westfield May 7. Pilgrim Fellowship plans supper committees for Rural Mail Carriers May 7 and possible trips to Pilgrim Heights Camp or Nelson Ranch. Catholic Daughters meet May 4 with officer elections and May 24 reception plans. Kindergarten round-up May 8. Various residents hosted guests on recent Sundays and Wednesdays.
The Westfield School Board and county officials met on April 23 to explore sustaining the local school, cooperation with the county board, and future state policy. They noted county supervision of special education, testing support, and staff resources, with financing identified as a key ongoing issue needing legislative action and public will.
Iowa pork producers are offered a feeder pig clearing house service by the Marketing Division of the Iowa Department of Agriculture. Sellers list pigs with the division and buyers obtain supply information by telephone. The service costs only long distance tolls and aims to boost Iowa feeder pig production with health certificates and farm-origin pigs.

The May issue notes Aurelia Relays and district track meets with AHS athletes breaking records. Scott Swift set a high jump record at 6 feet 10 inches, surpassing his prior best, while Terry Wilcox set AHS pole vault best at 9 feet. Scott Swift earned 3.5 points as Akron totaled 4.5.
AHS large music groups travel to Aurelia this Saturday to compete in the large group contest with Class A and Class B schools. The band directed by Mr. Seipp performs at 2 15 with Overture in C and La Reine da Saba. Mixed Chorus sings Praise to the Lord and Ninety First Psalm at 11 12. Girls Glee performs City Rain Green Leaves of Summer My Lover Is a Fisherman at 9 12. Boys Glee sings Chilly Winds and I Hear A Voice A Praying at 3 48. The school hopes to continue the tradition of four I s from the last two years.
Glenda Borchers was elected by the AHS student body as candidate for Conference Track Queen. The queen will be selected at the Rock Rapids track meet on May 11 by several judges, pitting Glenda against seven other conference candidates.
The AHL track squad scored 16 points to place fifth at the Comet Relays in Meriden Cleghorn. Jim Weinblom took second in the mile, Terry Jacobs was third in both the 220 and 440 events, Scott Swift finished fourth in the low hurdles, and the 4x440 relay team of Beckman Swift Jacobs Blake also earned a finish.
Junior High relay teams placed fourth in the 880 yard and 440 yard relays. The 880 team included Derrek Goudge Richard Anderson Roge Coon and Dean Hetzel. The 440 yard team featured Steve Wilcox Gene Barwick Roge Coon and Derrek Goudge. The Freshman Shop group wraps up projects with Mr Miller guiding.

Almost half of these occur in children under five, with home hazards including insecticides detergents nail polish remover moth balls and medicines. Prevention hinges on locked storage labeled drugs and adult supervision with prompt medical advice at any illness suspicion.
At Allis-Chalmers 200 acre proving grounds near Franksville Wisconsin engineers test production and experimental farm equipment off the line. Tractors power the disc barrow over rocks and frozen ground and a driverless tractor runs on a treadmill while a large fan tests lift systems. Field trials extend from Texas to Wisconsin as teams verify performance across crops and climates, ensuring devices meet farm needs year round.
