Lawrence Gale, 83, of Akron, died last Tuesday at Akron Hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Rev. Stanley R. Stone officiating. Burial followed in the parish cemetery. He was born August 24, 1887, near Akron and married Catherine McManaman October 10, 1910, at Hawarden. Surviving are his wife, three sons Orville of LeMars, Francis and Matt of Akron, five daughters Agnes and Mrs. Richard Burke of Sioux City, Mrs. Leroy Pick of Sergeant Bluff, Mrs. Phillip DiMascio of El Monte, California, and Mrs. David Gibeau of Bel Gardens, California, a brother Earl of Akron, a sister Viola Gale of Akron, 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The Town Council of Westfield Iowa Plymouth County will meet May 17 1971 at 7 00 PM in the Town Hall to consider selling the West one half block 17 Westfield to the highest cash bidder. Objections may be voiced at the hearing. Published Akron Register Tribune April 29 and May 6 1971.

Calico Palace by Gwen Bristow portrays forty eighters during the California gold rush, depicting varied fates of settlers and their contributions to the era.
The Scattered 4-H club met April 5 at Albert Beech's home with 9 members present. Roll call was answered by My Pro-Football Team. A film on Parliamentary procedure and time to fill record books were on the agenda. Next meeting is May 3 at Vernold Olson's home. Lunch was served by Mrs Beeck.
The Cheerful Neighbors Extension Club met at Jean Andersons home on Tuesday evening April 20. Eight members answered roll call with household hints and two guests attended. Activities for Akron Nursing Home patients included Easter events on March 26 and a play by Akron High School Library Club on April 15. A Spring Council March 26 agenda was reviewed. Plans for Achievement Day were discussed and the out going chairman will be honored as Rural Homemaker. Each club will provide a salad hot dish and bars for ten. A POW Viet Nam release appeal was signed for mailing. Welfare Family support will continue. May roll call will be Bar or Cookie recipe for Secret Sisters exchange. Lunch followed hosted by Jean Anderson.
The Camp Fire Girls met at Mrs. Jake Meinens home where pottery making was demonstrated. Mrs. Don Caskey attended to assist, and both hosts were thanked for their help.
