Local serviceman nets role in major Far East armada operation
Special to Register Tribune from Luzon, P. I. reports USN seaman John F. Dirks of Akron Iowa, son of Mr and Mrs J B Dirks, aboard USS Fort Marion, took part in the largest amphibious operation in the Far East since World War II. A fleet of about 60,000 men and 75 ships participated from March 14 to April 2.
