Severe Winter Revives Early Day Incident

The report recalls the January 12 1888 blizzard near Akron and Mount Hope school, where teacher Edith Hall Abeel guided pupils through danger. Two boys Henry Smith and Henry Shoulberg were saved by trusted neighbors and a timely rescue by George Waterbury with team and bobsled, while the school’s coal and fuel held through the night.

Westfield Tuesday Club Plans Arts and Crafts Entries

The regular Westfield Tuesday Club meeting at the church social rooms March 27 featured Evelyn Banks as hostess and Evelyn Banks named chair. Members answered roll call with a Commandment and President Shirley Banks led the meeting. An invitation to the County Convention on April 6 was received, with plans to attend and enter the Arts and Crafts exhibit themed Down South America Way.
