House Committee plans take shape as Chairman A. Comings says the committee will report a modified Nash code. It envisions a single elected head for law, accounts, and public safety with city council setting salaries and number of assistants. Senate members favor boards for fire and police, preserving Nash franchise provisions.
New York reporters indicate a breakthrough may end the anthracite miners strike as Pierpont Morgan faces pressure to resolve the dispute. Morgan appears worried while operators and union leader John Mitchell show signs of waning resistance as coal supply concerns rise.
Ber Nice Alling, 20, a farm helper for Charles Hardy in Northampton, attempted to take lau danum last Friday. Found in her room, an empty vial labeled inudanum prompted urgent aid from the Hardy family. After hours of forced walking to stay awake she recovered and vowed to try again, while her suitor Mike Alling recovered from the poisoning.
A small group from several Akron library board factions met in Golubus on Monday to urge the Legislature to place library appointments under the Board of Education rather than the City Council. Akron offered no representation. Attorney J O Frank, president, said he had not studied the proposal enough for a statement. He noted Cleveland appoints by the Board of Education yet politics persists there.

Washington September 10 The Treasury bureau released pre report figures showing U S cigar manufacturing reached 6,674,725,007 in the 12 months ended July 31. Figures exclude small cigars tobacco cigarettes under three pounds per thousand and imported cigars.
A petition circles Green Franklin Cov entry and Norton townships and Barberton residents urging the County Commissioners to build a road from Halo to Traidy at the city limits with a canal bridge. The plan would cut three miles to one mile, using rights of way owned by Akron Realty Co and Miller Taind Improvement Co.
Tabled plans outline Kenmore boulevard improvements costing 22000 on county property. Northern Ohio Traction Co. may build a canal bridge along the route and share bridge costs for joint driving and electric car use. The proposal marks the first step toward a southwest county road, reducing risky railway crossings like the Wingerter crossing.

New York September tenth reports that the Joe Ullman Kid Weller book was barred from the Sheepshead Bay track by August Belmont the Jockey Club chair. Opposed to heavy betting, the ruling comes amid support from Gates Drake and OLeary backers. The book, with a five hundred thousand dollar bankroll, takes bets up to seventy five thousand dollars per race.
