Miners Kill Two Strikers at Maltby Mine Riot

In Wilkesbarre Pennsylvania a mob of strikers attacked John Kenta and badly beat Frank Pat lek, killing Kenta and leaving Pat lek critically injured. The incident arose amid an employer return to Maltby colliery after a two week effort to resume work. Union leaders deny any halt to the strike as reports claim operators gained some miners at Summit Hill while troops were sent to the region but no disorder occurred.

Son of Poor Man Seeks Work in Ohio Case

Four young men are in police court for begging after a Monday morning hearing. Oscar Poorman claims to be son of General C. L. Poorman, Ohio secretary of state under McKinley’s governorship. He says he is a printer seeking funds to reach Springfield, Ohio, and has many Bellaire, Ohio references. Police doubt his claim and will hold him while references are checked.

An adverse Street committee report on Antony Huber seeking 400 damages due to street grade lowering before his Mast South property was adopted by the Board of City Commissioners Monday. The board also adopted an adverse report on the extension of Kolb Street.

Burglars Rob Post Office in Hubbard Ohio

In Hubbard Ohio robbers blew the post office safe at night and stole 400 dollars in stamps 200 dollars in money and 150 dollars in postal money orders belonging to the postmaster. The break in occurred in Youngstown on September 8.

Stolen horse and buggy reported from South Broadway

Henry Kirwin reported his horse and buggy stolen from South Broadway last night while he was making a car. Police were notified and headquarters learned Monday morning that John Baumgarter, a Summit area resident, located the description of the missing outfit. The claimant awaits.

Buena Vista Cola September reports say a meteor struck Benver Peaks near Buena Vista waking residents with a loud blast and tremors. A new canyon allegedly opened between the twin peaks and meteorite showers spread over the surrounding countryside. The city felt strong seismic shocks during the contact.

Hon J Park Alexander suffered a severe injury at his Went Market Street Bathday residence. After a fall from vertigo-like symptoms he cut his face and injured his chest, with internal effects. Doctor Kapp attended through the night. Miron Murdoch also consulted. He improved by Monday and is out of danger.

Plan for Refinancing N. O. T. Co. At Issue Saturday

Financé reports that refinancing plans for the N. O. T. Co. favor a second proposal from Dininge three weeks back. It envisions forming the Northern Olio Railway and Taght Go with a $7,000,000 bond issue and matching capital stock. Bonds would retire $3,000,000 of existing bonds, $1,000,000 of preferred stock, and $500,000 in other obligations.

Stockholder proposal details new equity plan and restructuring

The proposal suggests raising 1 500 000 dollars at 169 percent of total common stock to retire current common stock and 1 100 000 for trust purposes. New common stock would be split between existing common and preferred holders with preferred receiving either new bonds or half par value in common, while common holders would get 60 percent of bonds and 40 percent in new common stock. This plan aims to give all stockholders an exit via new bonds and grant control to the new common stock.

Jesse Carpenter, 24, ingested carbolic acid amid personal crisis near the fair grounds Sunday afternoon and was found under a trestle of the N O T Co. He recovered after a hearty dinner saved him, then was discharged later that night. He had threatened suicide in recent weeks amid troubles with his wife and heavy drinking. He worked as a scorer for Taplin Rice & Co.

Body found hanging in Barberton saloon

Carrie Miller, 45, was found hanging from a shed post in a saloon room early Monday. Coroner notified. indications point to suicide but murder theory exists. Miller recently arrived from Akron with a man named Meeker and had explored a hotel deal with Chris Javelle and Gat Ceramin. A lease and cash claims were reported, fueling dispute over money and property.

Italians in Akron Celebrate Virgin Mary Festival
