President Roosevelt will send his annual message to Congress next week. He is expected to propose uniform trust laws to curb over capitalization and anti competitive moves. The address may include tariff commission revival currency and banking reforms and plans to address the coal strike and arbitration.
A disastrous and fatal fire swept the vast petroleum wells at Boreslaw, Galicia. The blaze towered 600 feet high, lighting the surrounding area and visible for about two hundred miles. Damage runs into millions, with several lives lost.
Memphis dispatch reports Hugh W. Grison, sought in Tennessee for alleged abduction, caused the arrest of Miss Priscilla Howell and her detective in Los Angeles. Howell is charged with extortion and threatening money, while the detective is charged with burglary for breaking into a trunk to seek evidence. Both spent the night jailed.
Rev J L Davies preached on The Thanksgiving Proclamation and His Administrative Policy praising President Roosevelt for his stands and Rough Riders role. He called the President a sincere man and more a statesman than a politician, focusing on future judgment over the next election.
A petition signed by thousands of people from Maysville and nearly every town on the river was sent to President Roosevelt urging him to include a river project in his message to Congress. Similar petitions will be sent from other towns this week.

The scheme used widow entries under laws allowing them to file, with 43 widows entering at the Nashville sashville land office on November 18, 1902.

A theater car carrying Akron and Cleveland passengers derailed near Northfield after leaving Cleveland at 11 15 p m. The high speed incident left passengers shaken with scratches but no serious injuries. The special toward Akron arrived about 2 10 p m after passengers were transferred by a power house trolley.
Adjutant Jaeger of the Salvation Army marked twenty years since entering army service. He spoke on Sunday about his life in the army after lecturing Sunday evening. Born in Germany, he joined in London on November 23, 1882, and has served in five countries including England France Switzerland Germany and the United States since 1893.
The first rifle practice by Company B took place Saturday at a eastern city range. Scores out of 50 ranged from 10 to 38 with Captain Walkup at 26 and Corporal Hess leading at 38 amid limited prior practice.
Adjutant Jaeger said preparations are under way for a large Salvation Army Christmas dinner for the city’s poor. Last year the group distributed many dinners and this year donations of money food or clothing are welcomed.
Chicago Nov 24 A mall wagon in front of the Masonic Temple was robbed Saturday night. About 2000 dollars in government money were taken along with 82 registered packages. Several registered letters reportedly contained cash. Post Office Inspector Stuart declined to estimate the total loss, saying it could reach one million dollars, though he considers that figure unlikely.
The wife of J O Blakeslee in Common Pleas court was granted a divorce and restored to her maiden name Harriet Ingersoll. The petition cited extreme cruelty after Blakeslee assaulted the wife and her mother at their home, injuring the mother and causing scalp wounds. He was convicted of assault with intent to kill and is serving a penitentiary sentence. Blakeslee’s jealousy and threats were cited as motives behind the abuse.
A large turnout is anticipated for a turkey shoot at Company B's range in West Akron on Thanksgiving morning. Members and ex-members have been invited. many turkeys will be contested. Participants meet at the armory at 5 a.m.
The Beacon Journal and Democrat newspapers cooperate despite competition. The Beacon is printed on the Democrat’s press this week and a new press is installed in the Beacon Journal office. The Beacon will be issued shortly after noon and the Democrat at the usual hours.
Rev. C. B. Keller of Trinity Lutheran announced at Union depot Monday morning that he will return to retrieve the lone quarry not secured on his first trip. He wore hunting dress and carried a gun with his hunting dog along.

Turkeys are being killed in great numbers for Thanksgiving with prices around 18 cents per pound. Akron will serve over 10 thousand turkeys on Thursday as native birds from Summit and nearby counties dominate markets. Mrs Martha Easton of Toledo says she will file for divorce and alimony against her husband J. J. Easton after learning he married another woman in Cuba last June. She hints at possible criminal action as well. Easton, a railway office clerk, previously lived with Mrs Easton in Akron where the couple have many friends. Easton went to Cuba about two years ago.
