Victim Assaulted in Greenwood Store Row
Louis E. Stone of Greenwood Bros. store was attacked near Enterprise Manufacturing by two well dressed men. He suffered head wounds and facial bruises and is hospitalized. Despite valuables in his possession, including a gold watch and diamond ring, nothing was stolen. Chief Harrison sought clues with no findings yet. Stone had a prior minor robbery four months ago at the same location.

Letter from Corporal Gayer Nine Days Before Death
Relatives of the late Corporal Henry Gayer receive a letter written by their son nine days before his death. Dictated to a nurse at the Second Reserve hospital corps, he was in Malate hospital overlooking Manila Bay. He praised the hospital, asked to tell the boys he had not forgotten them, and said he would write soon. The nurse notes he was much improved after a hearty meal. His parents cling to hope of a possible mistake and his survival.
