At City Hall a fresh clash unfolds as President Seidell rebukes accusers and proclaims independence from political bosses. Democrats contend with quarrelsome Republicans as the dispute escalates in the municipal arena.

After the evening’s business, President Seidel called Vice President Gunthier to the chair and addressed the meeting. He spoke of two weeks of criticism and malignment, remarks continued on the second page.

The funeral for Reginald B. Weight was held at St Pauls Episcopal church at 2 pm Tuesday. Pallbearers included Todge A, Marvin, Hou, Geo, and others. many offerings were received from the vestry, brotherhood, Sunday school, Aultman and Miller & Co. Interment in Glendale was private. Rev J H W Blake conducted.
Judge Millard of the Probate court in Toledo Ohio rules that Truman Reed of Sylvania who has a guardian may receive daily toddy and tobacco to comfort him. Attorney Be We Chandler to supervise and dole out small allowances. The court notes the man has drank for years and should not be deprived of his remaining pleasures in his last days.
Funeral services for Mr. John Kreuder held Monday at 3 p.m. from his West Market Street residence. Knights of Pythian conducted the rites. Burial followed at Glendale.
American author Bret Harte died in London near Aldershot from a hemorrhage caused by a throat affection. He had lived quietly in England for years and kept a small circle in London at Lancaster Gate. Harte born Albany New York August 25 1839 rose to fame for mining camp stories. AP noted his death followed reports of his demise in America. The Weather section added rain tonight and cooler conditions tomorrow.
On May 6 Le roy Smith accidentally discharged a pistol while playing with Frank Seward, 10, son of Thomas Seward Jr. The weapon, believed unloaded, fired and killed Seward instantly. The two boys were close friends, and the incident occurred at their usual gathering place. Further investigation expected to determine exact circumstances.
Fat dividends remain the rule as Standard Oil of New Jersey directors announce a $10 per share dividend in May. In March a $20 dividend was paid, matching the prior year's level. The June dividend for that year was six.
John Baltz, a Pure Milk plant worker, faced assault and battery charges after threatening a boy named Robert Geer who reported the Board of Health visit. Baltz ejected Geer from the doorway. he was fined costs. Charles Ludwig also appeared, sued for intoxication, with costs awarded.
R W Tayler was renominated by acclamation for a fifth term at the 18th district Republican con vention in Alliance Ohio May 6. J A Beidler and Henry C Van Voorhis were likewise renominated by acclamation in Cleveland and Zanesville respectively for sixth term and other district races.
Police reported increased activity by thieves and suspicious characters around the Walter L. Main Circus, marking the highest level in ten years. Actual thefts were scarce, no arrests made yet, with officers on high alert and several suspects spotted but unproven.
In Toledo on May 6 Mayor BM Jones who heads the Police Commission refuses to surrender the Police Department to the new City Police Board created by Legislature and Governor Nash. A remand ordered surrender is refused as the mayor asserts no authority above the will of the people. The new board seeks custody of police records and keys, with threats of removal and possible jail for noncompliance.
Victory for Col M W Hoye follows a night of council votes in Akron. George W Crouse and Wm H Miller win Health Board seats, with Hoye favored for reelection. Dr A A Kohler retains Health Officer post. Library Board picks J W Kelley and A J Tidyman amid competitive bids.
A six horse team attached to a Main circus wagon ran away Tuesday on Mill Street. The wagon broke near Akron Trust Co after a wheel horse died, the driver escaped unhurt, and a second runaway collided with a streetcar, injuring no one. The fallen horse suffered severe injuries and was later killed by Officer Doerler. The incident drew a large crowd and left the wagon and horse valued at $125.
Washington on May 6 reports Admiral Sampson suffering a violent hemorrhage. He is unconscious and breathing hard, with doctors warning his condition may worsen rapidly. He has grown weaker for several days and the morning bleeding episode worsened the situation.
