Cleveland officials report the City Council passed a three cent fare ordinance Monday night. Franchises were granted for three lines and work is said to start once the ordinance becomes active. Only two councilmen opposed the measure, one citing concerns over municipal ownership.
March 18 Mount Holly North Dakota. John Young Way hanged at the county jail for complicity in the murder of Warrington Hunter, a wealthy farmer killed at his Riverstie home on June 25 1901. Way confessed to guiding the murderers but denied striking the blow. he is the second of four accused. Hunter’s house was robbed. three accomplices were arrested with one turning state's evidence. Miller escaped. Brown was hanged December 4.
An Associated Press dispatch from Cleveland reports a six and one half per cent increase in fire insurance rates on all manufacturing and mercantile risks east of the Rocky Mountains. Circular letters were issued and the new schedule takes effect today. Akron is said to see no change, while New York remains unaffected, as underwriters cite recent fires and higher risk costs. Dan Sheehan from Officer Taylor's brigade leaves town after a dull run of breaking stone.
Max Mayer, a confidential clerk at Rathbone and Sons brokers, New York, was arrested today on a charge of embezzling $100,000. Mayer previously held a partnership at Rathbone Mayer and Rathbone.
