Two Hessian men hanged for Halifax bank murder in Harrisburg
Weston M. Kelper and Henry Rowe were hanged at 1040 in Harrisburg jail yard before about 1000 spectators for the murder of Charles W. Ryan at the Halifax National Bank. A mass crowd pressed to view. jurors forced through guards. The pair, active in Licking area, robbed the Halifax bank on March 18, capturing $8000 before Ryan died from his wound. Accomplice Frank Sholey pleaded guilty and got ten years.
