City merchants suffer quiet Saturday trade while North Hill cars stall and rapid transit links strain to restore service. Officials cite warm moist air meeting cold fronts as the snow’s cause, with records noting this storm as the heaviest this season.
Snow and ice halted Has Been Done to Fruit and the city lines as workers carried shovels to free cars. By 8 o clock the streetcar network nearly tied up with schedules delayed up to four hours on some lines. No vegetation damage yet, but weight on trees risks later harm if weather does not improve.
After 10 o'clock, none of the Cleveland Valley trains run. The notice outlines a schedule change affecting daily departures and lapse of service in the late evening period. Authorities urge travelers to consult the timetable for alternatives and potential delays.

Mr. 5. A. Lane, an Akron historian aged 86 who has lived there 66 years, told a reporter Saturday he cannot recall a storm at this season matching the current one. He notes heavy snows before, but none so late and widespread this spring.
Reports describe light snow in Saintanea with about two inches, while Galion saw flakes only after 10 o clock this morning. The varying coverage suggests a slow, patchy storm moving through the area.
A winter storm disrupted Erie wires westward with links to Canton and Cleveland. Communications failed after 9 30 pm as snow deepened north of Ortville causing the Columbus trade to be delayed.
Erie train No 5 from the east, due at 7 08, was two hours late, then three hours. By 10 pm the waln had not arrived and Akron could not estimate arrival. Noon reports show the train stalled at Ravenna and unable to move. Trains 15 and 18 behind it will not arrive until Ravenna clears.
Eleven hours late tram No. 5 from the East reached the city at 10 a.m. after snow and a landslide near Pittsburgh. Wires were down for hours making tracking impossible. Washington bound service also delayed with no arrival figures while western B and O trains remained on time past Akron.
Canton and nearby Massillon faced drifts six to seven feet deep with train detours and halted streetcar service. Tracks remained blocked as the heavy snow disrupted rail and transit operations between the two cities.
The Akron solicitor arranged two coaches at Union depot to move B C passengers from West to Cleveland. Passengers were shifted from Union depot to Howard St station. The Chicago train could not be run beyond Union depot. Dr H D Todd advised on city prison and building needs. Commissioner McMillen issued the order. Todd is a close friend of Mayor Doyle.
The storm left railroads and telegraph companies nearly helpless Saturday. No telegrams could reach beyond Akron as Western Union wires to Cleveland failed by nine, and eastern lines collapsed overnight. Postal Service halted message acceptance, while long distance phones to Cleveland and Columbus remained functional.
A freight train north of Hast Market Street bridge was blocked by heavy snow at 4 AM. A horse and snow plow were used by 10 AM to dig it out but the locomotive could not advance or retreat. the train will be annulled.

Snow drifts stood two feet, a barn stuck mid journey, and a four hour wait. On reaching Quebec, the St. Lawrence ice was seven feet thick.
