The Aiken Running Club has a new member, Jamie Cole’s dog, but the canine distracts from the route markers. The dog led Cole’s companion on a merry chase and may not be invited back until it learns to read road signs. Joe and Julia DeVore found driving through Alabama and Mississippi boring, then grew excited about merging traffic signs.
Today program in Aiken features Graniteville-LBC Chorus Gene the Clown magician at 5 p.m. Aiken Civic Ballet at 5 30 p.m. Craig Eubanks performs tomorrow at 10 30 a.m. and 11 a.m. North Augusta High Stage Band at 12 30. Local beauty queens Evelyn Mapus Lucille Studley Lisa Wood and Renee Corbett perform at 12 30 with Senior Tap Dance 1 00. The Clogging Rebels appear at 1 00 followed by Susan Hutchison at 2 00. displays in front of Bankers Trust.
The forecast shows cloud cover and a good chance of rain this weekend with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the 60s. Cooler on Monday with temperatures dipping toward 50 as occasional rain periods continue statewide.

The event runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and tomorrow with performances by Graniteville-L-B-C-Combined Chorus and other groups and appearances by Miss South Carolina Diané Toole and politicians Marshall Cain Butler Derrick and Tanky Riley.
The Owens Corning Fiberglas facility in Aiken County faces possible curtailment as a railroad strike disrupts shipments of sand limestone and clay. Plant manager Robert A. Hrubala notes stopgap truck service and minor receiving-area changes are in place, with full normalcy depending on strike outcome.
Aiken County Treasurer Margie H. Plunkett informs the County Council that the office safe is inadequate for security. She confers responsibility for the safe and employee protection to the council, citing public view and weak design as concerns.
