Aikens Makin Promises Arts and Industry Exhibits and Events

Aiken's Makin opens at the Municipal Building with industrial exhibits on Park Avenue and arts and crafts on Laurens and Richland Avenues. It runs today 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and tomorrow and Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with varied entertainment and politicians listed for Saturday and Sunday appearances. Diane Toole Miss South Carolina attends, strolling booths and exhibits. Organizers credited include Linda Christine and Bernie Mercer among others.

Return of long lost uncle thrills Graniteville family

Ruth Lake and her relatives welcomed James Holmes, 86, back to Graniteville after 74 years away. Holmes left at age 12 to roam the country and later settled in Bradley, Florida with his wife, daughter, and grandson. He arrived Sept. 14 and stayed through Sunday, sharing memories of travels and family history.
