Celebration of life for James Ellington Kirkland Sr aged 71 set for 11:00 a.m. Thursday September 29 2016 at Cole Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joey Clark. Interment follows at 3:00 p.m. at Graceland East Memorial Park. Kirkland a native of Columbus Georgia lived in Simpsonville before returning to Aiken County. He retired after 48 years as a tool and die machinist with South Eastern Tool Company. He was survived by a son James Jr and a daughter Mary Sweat among five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Pallbearers listed and visitation scheduled 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Cole Funeral Home.

Brookline native John Kirrane Jr. who captained the 1960 U.S. Olympic hockey gold medal team died at 88 in a Quincy care facility from Alzheimer's complications. A firefighter and Army veteran, he was later honored in U.S. Hockey and Massachusetts halls of fame. He left three children and several grandchildren. Funeral Mass planned at St. Laurence Church.
