This old southern porch offers a viewing spot over green acreage at Aiken State Park. With fall coming, the parks become ideal places to watch the color changes of the leaves.
Redcliffe Plantation State Park and Aiken State Park lie within 20 miles of Aiken, offering peace and scenic views. Redcliffe, given to the state in 1973 by John Shaw Billings II, features a house built 1855 to 1859 with period furnishings and artifacts from Billings and Gov. Hammond’s family, including a tin bathtub, silver hinges, and war mementos.
Aiken State Park operates 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday to Monday through Oct 25, then 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with longer hours in April. Redcliffe Plantation State Park welcomes visitors 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday to Monday, with house hours 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 3 p.m. Sundays. The parks feature trails, picnic areas, and notable trees, wildlife, and historic CCC origins.
Millbrook Elementary observers celebrate 200th anniversary of the U S Constitution with grade level activities from first graders making an American flag to fourth graders presenting oral reports. Sept 16 Rep Irene Rudnick outlined steps of making and signing the Constitution. Senior Jody L Smith and Kevin Butler named Graniteville Exchange Club students of the month for September.
