Mehdi Hashemi a cleric who ran Montazeri’s Qom office was executed by firing squad in Tehran at dawn. He was convicted of corrupt on earth and accused of murder kidnapping and plotting to overthrow the government. His brother Hadi Montazeri’s son in law was arrested with no word on conviction.
In Miami officials say five of nearly 200 Eastern Air Lines passengers stormed a ticket counter after a flight to New York was canceled. Police described the scene as unruly and difficult to manage. The disrupted flight to Kennedy Airport carried 317 aboard an L 1011 but was canceled due to a mechanical problem. a Boeing 727 replacement could carry only 149.

The New York Post reports a twin engine plane came within several hundred feet of a helicopter carrying Secret Service and White House staff near the Statue of Liberty on September 21. Communication breakdowns at Newark tower left controllers unable to hear the pilot for 15 to 20 seconds.
