Patricia Hearst is assigned by the U.S. Bureau of Prisons to the Federal Youth Correction Center in Pleasanton to serve her seven year bank robbery sentence. She becomes eligible for parole in sixteen months.
Union sources say some progress is being made in negotiations to end the two week old UAW strike against Ford Motor Co but no immediate settlement. He notes movement but not enough to end the strike and cautions the dam could break any time. Another source doubts a settlement before next week at the earliest.
Former Yankee teammate Mickey Mantle will attend a fundraiser for Republican congressional candidate Bob Richardson in Rock Hill. The Oct 7 barbecue at Fewel Park begins 6:30 p.m. with a home run hitting contest including Mantle and Richardson. attendees welcome.
Frank S. Barnes Jr. of Rock Hill South Carolina president of the USITA told a congressional subcommittee that FCC decisions will not yield clear benefits for the public. He said they may lower rates for a few businesses but will overall push up residential and small business telephone charges.
