Sheri Linda Jaffa, snatched last Wednesday and held in woods for four days, was rescued by Jacksonville police as her bound wrists were cut. Her husband Richard Jaffa and contractor Jack McWilliams face charges with McWilliams held on $750,000 bond.
Presidents from five black nations met in Lusaka and rejected transferring power to Rhodesia's black majority but backed a British sponsored conference to set terms for hands over. Britain said talks would start within 48 hours. In Salisbury Ian Smith dismissed the move as communist influenced and said he would await U S and British reaction.
U S officials welcomed a Lusaka meeting where presidents of Zambia Tanzania Botswana Mozambique and Angola rejected a white chaired state council with veto power but signaled agreement on basic principles for a transition to black majority rule in Rhodesia. About 74000 dollars burned in a bucket while 24000 dollars remained unburned. Fe Hong Leo is in critical condition at Elmhurst Hospital. Police consider a possible religious rite theory.
