Town of Jackson to host fourth Hook & Cook festival

The Town of Jackson will stage its fourth Hook & Cook festival on Oct 15 at the Jackson Pavilion behind the Community Center. Activities run 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. with a fishing tournament, a barbecue cook off, crafts vendors, and free admission. Pre-register for fishing at Last Chance Bait and Tackle or Jackson Town Hall. $50 covers up to three people per boat. First prize pays 25 percent per category. cook off entry is $250 per category with cash prizes and trophies. Live music and a boat show accompany the event.

Hook and Cook Fourth Annual Event at Jackson Pavilion

The fourth annual Hook and Cook event takes place on October 15 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Jackson Pavilion on Main Street behind the Jackson Community Center. Entry in the fishing tournament is 50 dollars per boat for three people and the cook off costs 250 dollars per category. Meatloaf recipe earns Aiken man a place in national cookbook

John Martone of Aiken entered his late mother Rose Martone’s 1950s meatloaf in Cooks Country Lost Recipes contest. Of 1,200 entries, 117 were published in From Our Grandmothers’ Kitchen. The recipe features a sliced hard boiled egg wrapped in prosciutto and mushrooms with mashed potatoes. Sergeant Meatloaf leads the comfort food section and copies are due in stores later this month.

You and Your Dog art exhibit at ACA in October

ACA invites artists to submit original 2D works or photographs of themselves with their dogs for the You and Your Dog exhibition at the Aiken Center for the Arts from October 5 through November 11. Deliver artwork October 5, 10 am to noon. opening reception October 6, 6 to 8 pm. For details call 641-9094.

Riedell Run kicks off USC Aiken event for scholarship

USC Aiken School of Education sponsors the second Riedell Run 5 K on Saturday Oct 29 at 9 am along Pacer Path near the Convocation Center.
