South Carolina and Aiken saw unemployment fall in August as schools added staff for fall term. State rate fell to 5.6 percent from 5.9, with Aiken down 0.3 percent. national rate held at 4.46 due to people exiting the labor force. The commission said 7,700 fewer unemployed in August versus July and a year over year drop of about 20,000.

Loggerhead nests drop 30 percent along South Carolina coast

BMW Greer plant powers with landfill methane
BMW's Greer plant now derives more than 60 percent of its energy from methane captured at a nearby landfill. Waste Management's gas to energy project in Kershaw County supplies about 16 megawatts, enough for 15 000 homes annually, with a nine mile pipeline delivering gas from Spartanburg to the BMW facility. The system saves BMW at least one million dollars per year.
