Ground breaks for Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce HQ
The rain did not dampen turnout as officials broke ground for the roughly one million dollar Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce building. Construction to begin in weeks with target completion by spring. President June Murff says the project will be a microcosm of Aiken and benefit the whole town. Residents and Kalmia Hills donors praised the community support and gifts totaling from local residents. Architect McDonald Law called the response phenomenal and their building is truly the people’s project.

Agreement stops SRS 97 layoffs at Savannah River Site
A Thursday compromise between the U.S. House and Senate halts layoffs in the Savannah River Site contract workforce for the rest of 1997.
