Advisory Board to discuss SRS safety pause and plutonium handling

The Savannah River Site CAB will question improper plutonium storage that prompted a safety pause and halt of non essential work. The two day meeting in New Ellenton covers H Area operations and HB Line concerns with SRNS initiating the pause on Sept 11 after several safety incidents.

CAB Meeting Schedule at New Ellenton Center

The CAB meets Monday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Tuesday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the New Ellenton Community Center. Barbara Smoak says the pause aims to ensure employee and manager understanding of expectations and to restart operations carefully. The panel considers a funding request for liquid waste missions and may urge DOE to work with CDC and ATSDR on health and environmental effects of cleanup at SRS.
