Jail supervision funding on council agenda
County Administrator Clay Killian outlined a plan to secure about 2.25 million dollars from grants and low interest loans for the jail project leaving under 8 million to be funded by taxpayers via a bond issue. The ordinance may authorize a general obligation bond not exceeding 9 million. The meeting will also discuss transferring operational control of the Aiken County Detention Center from the county administrator to the sheriff, a move councils previously approved in 1985 but now reconsidered. Public input is being sought as councilors gather more information before a final decision.
