Activists protest plutonium shipment along Charleston waterfront
About 20 environmental protesters waved signs along the Charleston waterfront to denounce an overseas shipment of weapons-grade plutonium. Officials said the plutonium left the United States aboard an armored ship with a second escort vessel, bound for France for conversion into MOX fuel and a test run next year. Protester Tom Clements of Greenpeace warned the move risks environmental and security dangers amid global tensions.
