Chemical spill closes North Augusta road

A spill from a panel truck prompted a partial closure of West Avenue in North Augusta. Lt Tim Pearson said at 6 40 pm city employee Marty Creech spotted liquid leaking from the truck as Mark Dillinger of Augusta was away at Alpha Plasma Center to donate blood.

Wreck kills Edgefield Co deputy in Saluda County crash

An Edgefield County deputy died when his cruiser collided with a Ford van traveling the wrong way on S C 23 near Monetta. The deputy was transporting a 13 year old boy to a juvenile prison in Columbia. Both the van driver and the juvenile were taken to Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

Dun Medical center to move to new bigger facility

The Margaret J. Weston Center will close its Hahn Village site and reopen in a larger building at 127 Trafalgar Street just off Richland Avenue. The new center will have four exam rooms and 1,525 square feet, central heating and air, and full family health care including prenatal and pediatric services. A courier will deliver prescriptions from the Clearwater pharmacy.

Tests on Bridgestone Firestone tires raise recall concerns

Congressional investigators released documents showing 1996 testing by Bridgestone Firestone found speed tests of 200 mph for 90 minutes at 50 degrees damaged tires. Tests included seven tires from the Decatur Illinois plant. The recall covers 6.5 million ATX ATX II and Wilderness AT tires amid 103 deaths and 400+ injuries, with many rollovers involving Ford Explorers.

Aiken County Council OKs $2.5 Million Improvement Bond

The Aiken County Council approved a general obligation bond of 2.5 million for capital projects split as 1 million for vehicle purchases and 1.5 million for fixed asset improvements. Funds include 400,000 for library roof replacement and 150,000 for judicial center roof work plus generic facility expansions and new radios.
