Brooks pleads guilty Compass Academy co founder Jay Brooks sentenced

Jay Brooks, Compass Academy co founder, pled guilty to three securities fraud and two forgery counts. Circuit Court Judge Garrison Hill sentenced him to 15 years total with three 10 year terms suspended to five years probation, credit for 127 days, and restitution to about 70 victims. Victims spoke of a deceptive friendship before sentencing.

Fathers and father figures fill Byrd Elementary for WATCH D.O.G.S.

Graniteville Byrd Elementary welcomed 415 attendees including 187 fathers and father figures plus 228 students to launch the WATCH D.O.G.S. program. Principal Russell Gunter praised the turnout as the largest seen outside athletic events. The initiative, started in 1998 by the National Center for Fathering, places male role models in schools to boost security, reduce bullying, and support teachers through activities like arrivals, reading, hallway patrols, and job talks.

Waste facility price up 1B at Savannah River Site
