Gov. Dick Riley leaves for Europe to boost foreign capital investment in South Carolina. He cites 4.3 billion dollars in foreign investment since 1960 and about 40 000 jobs created, while noting textile import concerns and the need for Congress to pass the Textile Apparel Bill.

Rob Baker, raised in Florence South Carolina, is named circulation manager of the Aiken Standard. He holds a Francis Marion College business degree earned in 1983 and was a three year baseball letterman. He previously led circulation at Greensboro News and Record and served as state circulation manager.
