Two Held in Negro's Death at Ellenton
In Ellenton, Goly Dixon white and Sam Thomas colored are in the county jail after a coroner's jury found them responsible for the death of Wilbur Parker colored. Parker, new to Ellenton, was struck on the head during a Bent Lake fishing party and found dead in the Savannah River swamp water. Dixon faces murder charges while Thomas is held as an accessory before the fact.

An American Legion Auxiliary chapter was organized last Friday at the Commercial Hotel in Aiken with Mrs. Ja W. Boykin Jr. named president. Officers include Mrs. W. M. Smoak, vice president. Mrs. C C B Anderson, recording secretary. Mrs. F E Henderson, corresponding secretary. Mrs. Henry E Holley, treasurer. Mrs. Haskell Shuler, historian. Mrs. J W Ashhurst, chaplain. and Mrs. Claus W Busch, sergeant at arms. Greenville chapter president Mrs. Carl E Morgan helped, as did other state officers. The formation accompanies next summer’s state conventions. A business meeting followed, and the W C T U held its monthly gathering at Mrs. J T Shuler’s home.

New Yorkers Attempt Bold Gasoline Robbery Near Aiken
Four white men from New York state attempted to rob a Columbia highway filling station six miles from Aiken. They fled after refusing to pay for ten gallons of gas, were captured at Lexington, and returned to jail with a large bunch of skeleton keys found in their Pontiac. Supreme Court Upholds Legislature Extra Pay
The South Carolina Supreme Court ruled the 1931 General Assembly action awarding expense money to its members was constitutional. Aiken Institute Opens 1931 32 Term With Exercises
The Aiken Institute opened its 1931-32 term at 4 o clock Monday morning with the usual opening exercises in the school auditorium. Rev K S Smith county superintendent led scripture wedding and Rev P J McLean led in prayer as about 1000 pupils and patrons gathered. P F Henderson chairman of trustees and Supt W J McGarity spoke. faculty remains same as last year except Helen W Dye replaces Lillian Brown as sixth grade teacher.

County Tax Books Open As Taxes Begin To Be Paid
Aiken County treasurer Thomas H. Williamson opened the tax books and notes early payments. Aiken is the only county in the state collecting taxes while auditor Haskell C. Jordan completes duplicates and hands books to the treasurer. Ellen Brown, a colored woman, paid her 191 taxes first, stating she saved the money to pay at the proper time.

Dr Hastings Wyman Dies Suddenly at Home
Dr Hastings Wyman a prominent local physician and city council member died suddenly at his Park Avenue home Sunday after six o'clock. He had recently complained of severe heart trouble and suffered a heart attack. He was 53, survived by wife Ada Miller Wyman and three sons Bostwith Hastings and Dibble Wyman of Aiken and Miss Ada Wyman of Aiken, plus three sisters and a brother. Funeral services were conducted at First Presbyterian Church with interment in Bethany Cemetery. Active pallbearers included Ernest J. Atlen and Herman H. Busch. honorary pallbearers included Dr I D Boone and Dr Harry Wyman.
