North Augusta City Council approved an overtime pay policy 5 to 0 aligning most staff with the Fair Labor Standards Act following the Garcia v SAT. The policy excludes non exempt public safety officers and communications technicians from overtime, suspends free escort services, and shifts security payments to the city. Overtime for non exempt public safety officers is set at 42.75 hours weekly. The council also revised the tap fee and building code ordinances and approved a resolution to accept private donations for economic development.
State climatologist says heat and humidity have ended with a shift to cooler, drier air for the next 30 days. Record early morning 40s were set in western to northern SC. rainfall remains below average but near normal later. Cotton harvest benefits from drying conditions while soybeans may suffer without rain.
